CNPS hike: Tomales Bay State Park Summer Delights

Tomales Bay State Park Summer Delights with the Marin chapter of the California Native Plant Society

Wednesday, August 27, 2025, 10 am to 2 pm

Leader: Ann Elliott

Please sign the CNPS waiver if you have not already done so.

During late summer, the Jepson & Johnstone Trails come alive with the fruits of fall. We will eat huckleberries, marvel at the fruit on the California honeysuckle, enjoy a variety of ferns, search for the CNPS Listed 1B Eastwoodiella californica (marsh harebell), and have lunch at beautiful secluded Pebble Beach. If the weather is nice consider a swim in Tomales Bay at our lunch spot. Our planned route is about 3 miles with about 500-foot elevation gain hiking through mixed sun and shaded forest.

Directions: Meet at the small unmarked parking area at the top of the Jepson Trail, which is located just south of the entrance to Tomales Bay State Park on Pierce Point Rd. To get there from central Marin, go out Sir Francis Drake Blvd., several miles past Inverness. At the fork in the road, bear right onto Pierce Point Rd., and go approximately one mile to the parking area. If you see the entrance sign to Tomales Bay State Park (Heart’s Desire), you have gone too far, so turn around and go back 200 yards.

Bring: Water, a snack or lunch. Dress in layers for variable coastal weather. Swimsuit? Containers for huckleberries to take home?
