The White Gate Trail is a connector between the Muddy Hollow Road Trail and the Estero Trail, running parallel to the Glenbrook Trail. It passes several ponds and offers views of the Limantour Estero in the distance. A few pine trees dot the path but the trail is primarily fully exposed to the sun and wind. You are likely to spot cattle as well as other wildlife near one of the marshy areas along the trail.

Loop: Muddy Hollow Road/White Gate/Estero (9 miles)

Hiking the loop in this order will put you facing the ocean on the Estero segment. Starting at the Muddy Hollow Road trailhead, take the Muddy Hollow Road Trail 2.9 miles to the White Gate Trail. (Be sure to take the correct Muddy Hollow trail — you want the one with “road” in the name. It starts where the gravel road ends, to the right of the parking area, and goes downhill and over a creek at its beginning. The other trail is at the end of the parking area and is a straight gravel road for 0.3 miles.) Follow the White Gate Trail for 0.9 miles to the Estero Trail. Go left on the Estero Trail in the direction of the Glenbrook Trail for 1.2 miles. When you reach the Glenbrook Trail, turn right to stay on the Estero Trail for 4 miles to the Muddy Hollow Trail. Take a left and walk 0.3 miles along the gravel road back to the parking area.
