Come enjoy a wonderful interactive day learning about the Monarch’s remarkable life history, the perils they face, and how you can help save them by sowing seed balls of their nectar and host plants which we’ll have fun making in class. In the Fall, the magnificent Monarchs migrate thousands of miles and need food along the way and something to eat when they arrive. In the Spring, it’s the next generation of Monarchs who’ll make the return journey and they’ll need to eat, as well. When it’s time to lay their eggs, the Monarchs require Milkweed plants. Milkweed plants have become scarcer and harder to find leaving the future of the Monarchs in limbo. You can help change this! Be a guerilla seed-sower for Monarch butterflies! In this class, we’ll have fun fashioning seed balls containing seeds of the Monarch’s favorite nectar flowers and the seeds of their vital Milkweed host plant that you can later sow in wayside fields along the road for them to find. After we finish making our seed-balls, we’ll caravan to Bolinas to see the congregating Monarch Butterflies, who’ve just made their long journey, clustered in the trees where they’ll spend the winter. We’ll enjoy our picnic lunch while watching them in the trees nearby. Meet at the Bear Valley Picnic Area near the Visitor Center.
