Cantaloupe Gondola

Slice firm ripe cantaloupe into wedges. Scoop out center section of fruit, leaving the sides intact to form a little bowl. Fill it with your favorite dip. With toothpicks (decorated or plain), construct a basket at one end of the cantaloupe wedge and fill it with miniature edibles: very small grapes, cherry tomatoes, dried fruits, nuts. Make a small lantern by wrapping a battery operated tea light in wide gold mesh ribbon. The ribbon will make a little pouch that holds the tea light and you can secure the ribbon with a piece of cord at the top. Take two long skewers and place them at either end of the cantaloupe. Tie gold cord to each and suspend the “lantern”. Serve with bread or crackers.
