Join the Marin chapter of the California Native Plant Society for an exploration of several Point Reyes habitats along the Drakes Estero Trail: chaparral, pine forest, grassland, and saltwater marsh. We will discuss plant communities, enjoy late flowers, and marvel at the spectacular views of Drake’s Estero. We will plan on a moderate 4.5-mile round trip out-and-back. Energetic souls could continue to Sunset Beach or Drakes’ Head for a much longer walk (8 or 9 miles).
Directions: Meet at the Drakes Estero Trail Parking Lot in Point Reyes National Seashore. From Inverness, continue on Sir Francis Drake Blvd toward the lighthouse. Two miles past the Pierce Point Road intersection, turn left on a narrow road to the Estero Trail (notice a ranch on the right). Continue on this road 1 mile to the Drakes Estero Trailhead parking lot.
Bring: Water, a snack/lunch. Dress for variable weather at the seashore. Bring binoculars for viewing birds and other wildlife.
If you have not done so already, please sign the CNPS Marin 2026 Waiver
