Online | October 20 | 1pm–2:30pm
Join Bay Nature and Jim Tietz of Point Blue for a virtual talk on vagrant birds, Tuesday October 20 from 1pm to 2:30pm. During fall migration an estimated 1 million birds will travel through the Pacific Flyway. “The Farallones, located some 27 miles west of San Francisco and closed to the public to protect the wildlife, are best known for hosting the largest seabird colony in the Lower 48. But they’re also famous for attracting vagrant birds that have wandered far outside their normal ranges.” Theories as to what causes these birds to veer off course is exactly what Jesse Greenspan writes about in the inspiring article, Are Vagrant Birds Lost or Pioneers? For Clues, Researchers Look to the Farallones. Tune in to hear more from Jim who has been studying this phenomenon for 20 years! This talk is free for Bay Nature Members and $5 for Nonmembers.
