Training begins this fall for volunteers interested in leading school groups on environmental field trips of Martin Griffin Preserve in West Marin and Bouverie Preserve in the Sonoma Valley. Field trips occur in fall and spring.
Over the course of five required trainings and time in the field with students, you’ll learn about:
Environmental education
Working with Children
Ongoing training about local natural history
Conservation science
Land stewardship

Required Training Dates:
Training #1: Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m. (Bouverie Preserve, Glen Ellen)
Training #2: Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. (Martin Griffin Preserve, Stinson Beach)
Check In: Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 10–11:30 a.m. (Zoom)
Training #3: Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 9:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. (Bouverie Preserve, Glen Ellen)
Refresher Docent Training: March 2026, exact dates TBD — these are required for all docents who will be leading hikes in the spring; there are usually two dates at each of the Preserves, so you will have 4 dates to choose from.
Training #4: Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 10 a.m. –5 p.m. (Martin Griffin Preserve, Stinson Beach).
