Bay Nature Talk: Grebes
05/20/2025 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM PT
Join Bay Nature Magazine and researcher Floyd Hayes for a virtual talk about the behavior and ecology of grebes on Tuesday, May 20, from 12 - 1pm. "With black hood and dagger beak, western and Clark’s grebes—close relatives that sometimes hybridize—strike rakish figures on Bay Area waters, where many breed in the spring and summer," writes print magazine contributor Sonya Bennett-Brandt. "But for all the attention they command, the secrets of their lives are well-guarded." During this talk Floyd will dive deeper into the internal lives of grebes, looking at their behavior and some of his research on these much-loved birds. This talk is free for members and $5 for nonmembers.
This event is inspired by the "Behold the Flamboyant Mating Rituals of Grebes" piece published in our Spring 2025 print magazine by Sonya Bennett-Brandt.
