Looking for bears (and bear scat) in West Marin

Hi neighbors!  Summer is here, and with it, increased bear activity!  Once again, this summer I will be collecting bear scat samples in West Marin for the North Bay Bear Collaborative.  We're conducting DNA sampling to study the black bear population in the North Bay.  If you find what you think might be bear scat - or see a bear - please reach out to me by email (sarahrun1@yahoo.com).  Taking a photo of the scat, alongside something for scale (ruler, pen, coin, iPhone, keys) is super helpful.

And a huge thank you to everyone who reported bear scat and sightings last year.  We just got back the sample results (yes, it takes a long time to get them processed) and we are still reviewing the data, so I can't report on our findings just yet.
